How It Began
There is a particular feeling of being received.
Not served. Received.
Growing up between South Asia and Canada, I understood from early on what it meant to be truly received. The moment you arrived somewhere, the whole atmosphere shifted to accommodate you. Someone brought something warm before you asked. The room arranged itself around your presence.
You were not a guest moving through a system. You were the reason the room existed at all.
I spent years trying to find that feeling in Toronto. I booked the appointments. I showed up. I paid the prices that promised it.
I left every single time feeling like a number had been processed.
I started asking the women around me if they felt it too. Almost all of them said the same thing: they used to love going. Now it felt like a chore dressed in expensive packaging. Rushed. Impersonal. Everyone calling themselves luxury. Almost no one delivering it.
